Montréal, March 30th 2011 – The 2011 Hydro-Québec Montréal Regional Science & Technology Fair (MRSTF) wrapped up yesterday evening with the awards ceremony. Prizes with a total value of nearly $70,000 were handed out in recognition of outstanding achievements by the up-and-coming generation of scientists in the region.
For the occasion, Concordia University played host to more than 310 exhibitors from throughout the region. From March 27 to 29, these budding scientists presented 199 competing projects to more than 10,000 visitors. The event was organized by the Educational Alliance for Science & Technology (AEST), in co-operation with Concordia and the CDLS-CLS Network.
14 exhibitors from this Science Fair, which showcases the talent and drive of young students, will now go on to represent the region at the 2011 Super Expo-sciences Hydro Québec, Québec Final, to be held April 14 to 17 at the Centre culturel de l’Université de Sherbrooke.
First prize
The Hydro-Québec First Prize, awarded to the best project in the fair, went to Chloé Anassis for her experimentation project titled “Embrace Air With Algae Repair”. It involved studying if modifications to the CO2 capture unit of the photosynthetic pathway of the Chlamydomonas reinhardtii algae will affect the CO2 fixation rate in the genus.
